Teaching the "Dumbest Generation"

I didn't make up that title for the current generation of students progressing through our educational system, but there it is.  It's out there, and those using the term the "Dumbest Generation" have statistics to back up their claim.

This article tells educators it's about the verbs, not the nouns, in teaching the iGeneration.  In other words, while nouns like blog or wiki or wordle or glog are important, what's more important are the activities students are enabled to do through using these tools - activities like collaboration and persuasion and present and share.

The introduction to the article says:
Instead of trying to find ways to integrate blogging, movie-making, and videoconferencing ... into our instruction, we need to spend our time and energy focusing on the kinds of essential skills that students can polish, explore, and master with the help of tech-driven learning experiences.
It's an interesting read for educators today.  Here it is: Teaching the iGeneration: It's About Verbs, Not Tools
